Wording of this Handout:
Forgiveness
There is a wonderful story, which comes from the North of Scotland.
There used to live there a doctor who was very good at his work, but he was also kind and compassionate when it came to his patients. Whenever he treated someone who was very poor, he would not bill them, but instead, over their account he would write, in red letters: Forgiven, too poor to pay.
When the grand old man died, his wife decided she wanted the money owing, so she gathered all the unpaid accounts together and took them to court. The judge looked at the accounts and asked:
"Did your husband write these words above the people's names?"
"Yes," said the woman.
"Then," said the judge, "there is not a court in the land that can obtain the money when he has written "forgiven."
It's exactly the same for Christians. Once you accept Jesus as your Saviour, God writes "Forgiven Forever" over your name and you are safe for eternity.
The Bible says, "I write unto you, little children, because your sins are forgiven you for his name's sake."
