Wording of this Handout:
Light in Dark Times
My mother died of cancer. It took two years and three operations, and it was a sad thing to watch her life slowly dim to a mere flicker then blink out.
But as she died, she spent more time thinking about God. She also read the Bible. Up till the cancer started she had spent almost no time at all doing these things.
The cancer was a curse, and I have no good thing to say about i, but while my mother suffered, she came closer and closer to God, and in the last few weeks she received Jesus as her Saviour.
I am very reluctant to try to read into the death of my mother anything other than the bare facts, since God alone is in charge of the mysteries, but I did see how the cancer was an instrument to help my mother enter heaven.
If she had not had the cancer, it seems unlikely to me that she could have ever been saved.
The Bible says, "God sometimes uses sorrow in our lives to help us turn away from sin and seek eternal life."
2 Corinthians 7:10
