Wording of this Handout:
Be Careful Where You Pitch Your Tent
Abram and his nephew Lot were both doing very well. Their flocks and herds were increasing, and they were becoming wealthier, but there was not enough land for them to live in the same area, so Abram gave Lot a choice.
"You choose wherever you want to live, and I'll take what's left."
Lot chose the best land he could see, but unfortunately it included parts of cities which were built along the southern end of the dead sea. These cities were full of people who had turned away from the true God, and instead were worshippers of false gods, and astrology, and the control of the cities was in Satan's hands.
Lot eventually ended up living in one of the cities. His two daughters married wicked men of the city, and Lot's wife became very attached to the godless culture. Homosexuals were everywhere and all sorts of other depraved practices existed.
Now, was Lot sensible to live so close to this fallen culture? Of course he wasn't! He should have kept himself and his family apart, but as a result of his foolishness, he lost his wife, his house, his possessions and ended up running to the mountains. His daughters were also corrupted, as he found out soon afterwards.
The Bible says, "But the men of Sodom were exceedingly wicked and sinful against the Lord."
Genesis 13:13
