Passing Time

by Norman Wagoner © 1998

Now my age is 33,
I'll soon be 34.
As though my memorys' failing me,
My daughters help keep score.

I want to jot a little note,
About the love we share.
Bigger hearts or brighter smiles,
No one else compares.

It doesn't seem that long ago,
When I was on my own.
My firebird, a few good friends,
And all my life to roam.

But God was watching out for me.
He had my life in mind.
Even though I seldom prayed,
And gave Him little time.

He gave to me a loving wife,
Beauty beyond compare.
He gave to me two daughters,
Jewels from His very crown, I swear.

It's taken me a long, long time
To see the love He gave.
To feel the mercy and the grace,
The Son who died to save.

Now theres not a day goes by,
That I don't think of Him.
I feel Him when I get a hug,
Or see my daughters grin.

I know someday He's coming back.
He's coming back for me.
But until then I'll have to look
And see Him in the breeze.

I'll see Him in the loving smile
That my wife gives to me.
I'll see Him in the trusting eyes,
Of daughters on my knee.

I'll see Him in the mirror
When all I see is grayed.
I'll see Him in my checkbook,
When all the bills need paid.
