Coming Home

by A Janeen Quillman

Coming Home

Did you ever come home late at night
And discover your house keys gone?
You must have misplaced them in your rush
And suddenly everything’s wrong.

The sinking feeling of being locked out
Of your place of comfort and rest,
Overwhelms you with a sense of hopelessness
As you try to think of what’s next.

Imagine the feeling you would have
If your life on earth was to end,
And you faced the locked door of heaven
While covered with shame and sin.

But sadder would be the heart of God
Hearing you knock outside the door,
Knowing He had given you the key
The key while on earth you ignored.

This key to heaven is Jesus Christ
And your faith to believe in Him.
His death on the cross was to save you
Providing you repent of your sin.

Then the door of heaven would open
And you would never be alone,
As you come in saved and free from guilt
To finally say, “I’m home”.
