Why?

by Melissa Sullivan

Wounded and broken, terrified and alone,
She cries, "God why did you let me do this?"
As she looks back on what her life has become,
What will she change if He grants her wish?

Will she change the way she feels inside,
Dirty and ashamed, afraid and ugly?
Will she change the way people treat her,
And how they look at her unlovingly?

Will she choose to erase the pain
Of those who she afflicted?
To wipe away their loss and hurt,
Bring restoration to those she wounded.

He gives her a choice,
You or the people you injured.
I can take away your pain and suffering,
Or I can erase what you did to the offended.

She answers back to God,
This pain is almost more than I can bear.
But take theirs away, please Lord,
They don't deserve it, it's not fair.

I will do as you ask, He says
Their pain will diminish in time,
But you, My child must remember,
To stay with Me, for you are Mine.

I never left you,
Even when you denied Me.
I continued to walk beside you,
Even through your atrocities.

She replied back to Him,
weeping and in despair.
Lord, I don't deserve You,
Your forgiveness is not fair.

What is not fair, He answered her
Is if you don't learn from this.
I want you to comfort the wounded,
And show them there is forgiveness.

I have let you go through these trials,
So that you may know how it feels.
To be condemned and judged,
When your sins have been revealed.
