Roomie

by Earl W Haskins © 2015

There’s a tap at my heart, I peek out where it broke
It's the Lord so I asked Him in
My guilt is laid bare when my secret He spoke
“I know you've been living in sin”

I said "Satan's my roomie, I know it’s a mess
His temptations were more than enough"
Jesus said "I'll remodel if you will confess
And your roomie, he isn't that tough"

I so wanted a change, I can't live in this place
I was hurting and Jesus could tell
My roomie’s a liar, a thief, a disgrace
And he's leading me straight into hell

Our motif was anger, the color was fear
The devil keeps everything dark
Jesus took down the blinds so everything's clear
Now a fire is beginning to spark

He's fixing my home, He’s the carpenter I’m not
Cleaning stains from my pillows of doubt
I said “Thank you for that, I almost forgot
Those were tears and they wouldn't come out

And this bookcase of lies, all varnished in shame
Where my sins have been sorted by shelf
It’s old and it’s heavy and blasphemes Your name
Satan loves it, he built it himself”

Jesus throws it outside, then urged me to fight
With the Lord on my side I can’t wait
He's hanging new curtains that magnify light
I see God in this future roommate

My heart now remodeled, new lease being signed
The Lord repaired everything marred
When Satan came home, he was furious to find
His possessions all over the yard

Jesus got in his face and He dangled a key
"You're homeless just like I predicted"
Satan storms away cursing, as mad as can be
Repentance just got him evicted

And Pharaoh said, Who is the LORD, that I should obey His voice
to let Israel go? I know not the LORD, neither will I let Israel go.
