A Voice In The Wilderness

by Irene Nesbitt

The storms are coming so swift & strong
I sometimes wonder what I'd done wrong
The rain is pouring, the sun is down
the thunder is rolling & lightning the ground.

My heart so full of tormenting fear
I look to see if the way is clear
So dark, no light is piercing through
Dear Lord, I now must look to you.

I prayed and cried out with all of my heart!
Dear Father, please help me. I'm falling apart!
The mountains are high, the valleys are low.
I know I won't make it if one more blow!

I heard a voice in the wilderness so clear.
Whisper words of comfort in my ear.
I knew my Father had heard my prayer.
I knew I'd find him here somewhere!

A gentle touch reached for my hand
and carried me through the desert land.
The wind blew harder and there I rest,
my head upon my Savior's breast.

He said, "everything will be alright.
Just let me carry you through the night!"
He kissed me and wiped my tears all dry.
So soft, so gentle, I had to cry!

By then the storm so quietly ceased
My fears & worries had soon decreased!
He placed me down upon my feet
and looked at me and started to weep!

Dear Lord, I said, why do you cry?
Please tell me Lord. Please tell me why?
"I see you've been in the storm a while,
before you called on me my child."

He took his love and filled my soul
and gave me grace to make me whole.
He poured out mercy and gave me peace
to place my clouded mind at ease.

Just rest in me in mountains high
and remember I am always close by.
Just reach out open arms to me
and under my wings, you'll safely be.

The way is clear now, you go on
and know the time won't be that long.
The storm clouds will no longer be in your way.
For soon I'm coming for you one day!
