Heroes

by Joy Wieters

There are some who exercise patience,
And some who exercise fear;
Some the downfall of our country,
Sacrifice, to keep loved near.

There's some who rule the battle and
There's some who actually fight.
Some who make a promise,
Few who actually get it right.

There are few who rule the world
And more who live the lives of men,
But there's some who love a country
When it's politician's dead.

There are few who reach the top for which
So long they've fervent sought,
Just a few who forced to power
Give it up again as ought.

There are many whom a whisper
Of some gain for them would listen;
There are few who turn it all away
For opposite direction.

There are some, that are true heroes,
Whom have for this nation fought.
And ther're also worthy teachers
Whom deserve a thankful thought.

Those who've stood our country well
No matter what it's fate shall be;
Those who've tried we call the heroes,
Many such there be.

But sometimes we've tried again
And persistence doesn't work.
Then we keep trying again
For inside us heroes lurk.

We can be a friend to the
Lord whose name is Holy,
And also be a friend
To the widow who is lonely,

Because we're not two-faced people-
We believe the truth; not lies.
And we believe that heroes
Are not just in suits and ties.

We believe that that there's a common ground,
Between all of us people,
And I think it's here within
This country and the steeple.
