Sometimes That’s What It Takes

Sometimes it takes a crisis
to bring us to our knees;
finally crying out to God
in humble, desperate pleas.

Sometimes it takes catastrophe
to break upon our soul;
to carry us to the One
who can heal, make us whole.

Sometimes it takes a tragedy
to help us change direction;
surrendering all to Jesus,
instead of cold rejection.

Sometimes it takes a whirlwind,
our lives blown helter skelter;
until we seek the Rock of Ages
to give us peace and shelter.

Hard times we do not like,
pain, grief, calamity,
but oft that's what it takes
for God to reach to you and me.
