PH ILIP

by edward potts

"Philip. Go to the desert" an angel said to me,
There's where the Lord wants you to be,
A man will come by in a chariot of gold,
Your presence is needed, your voice will be bold.

I went to the desert and was crossing the sand,
When all of a sudden rode up an Ethiopian man,
As he traveled along he was reading the word,
But he didn't understand the words he heard.

He was reading Isaiah about a lamb that was slain,
Then he asked for my help, these words to explain,
So I told him of Jesus who had paid the cost,
The lamb that was slain was Christ on the cross.

I preached to him of Jesus that his debt was paid,
The tomb is now empty where Jesus had laid,
I told him of Peter, James and John,
That they had seen Jesus after the victory was won.

I told him of Pentecost, that day of great power,
He asked to be baptized that very same hour,
Just what must I do this great power to receive,
Just trust in God's Son, Him you must believe.

We found you some water, I baptized that man,
Now he tells of Jesus in a far distant land,
As his chariot left me, his voice he did raise,
From a heart full of love, came a mouth full of praise.
