STEPHEN

by edward potts

The disciples were busy, some work went undone,
They needed some helpers, I Stephen was one,
Filled with His spirit I wanted others to see,
That living for Jesus meant so must to me,

I told about Jesus, His death on the cross.
I said without Him their lives would be lost,
Some people listened but some turned away,
They were afraid what their leaders would say.

Some received healing as His miracles did show,
And each passing day their numbers did grow,
Some became jealous, and men they did pay,
To accuse me of blasphemy, false words I did say.

The high priest listened to their charge against me,
Then he motioned for silence, "I'll listen to thee,"
I was filled with the spirit, I brought them the word,
About Abraham and Isaiah, and all I had heard.

I told about Joseph and the Egyptians births,
I told about Moses and the wilderness search,
I told how God lead Israel across the Red Sea,
For God had commanded that Israel be set free.

I told about David, and the prophets who were slain,
I told of a baby, who in a manger had lain,
I preached about Jesus and the miracles He had done,
When I finished talking and I shouted, "you killed God's only Son."

I looked into heaven and what did I see,
I saw Jesus standing, He was waiting for me,
I knew that in death I would not be alone,
I didn't even see who threw the first stone.
