Grace to Forgive

by John Janzen © 2017

I’ve got this little problem here you see
This brother or this sister bothers me
What they said just came out wrong
And I’ve been troubled all along
I just haven’t got the means to let it go

So what’s a Christian now supposed to do?
When no one knows the things I’m going through
Is it my rights I should defend
And let my will make their will bend?
Will this rage that fills the floodgates ever flow?

Its times like this the law would suit me fine
Eye for eye and tooth for tooth with vengeance mine
Though I would never wish the same
If it was me that was to blame
I’m just sore that I this burden have to bear

I can’t secure the best of these two worlds
In one hand wrath the other precious pearls
So if it came for me to choose
The pearls I can’t afford to lose
On my Saviour I must learn to cast my care

It shouldn’t be so hard to see my need
When Christ for my salvation had to bleed
He chose to suffer on the cross
All that I gained was through His loss
By His death a way was made for me to live

This life is not a stroll on through the park
Sometimes the journey’s hard, the pathway dark
My Saviour Jesus Christ has shown
I do not walk this path alone
In His grace I will determine to forgive

Through grace I am determined to release
My hand from hurt so I may handle peace
Though what I’ve suffered isn’t fair
I dare not venture to compare
With my sin that Jesus bore on Calvary

Lord may I always keep perspective clear
Remember that the things that happen here
Will come before Christ’s Judgement Seat
Where by your grace I will repeat
Please forgive as I forgave my enemy
