Lillie's Answer to Prayer

by Margaret Cagle

I have a grandchild named Lillie,
Who now is twelve-years old.
Sometimes she acts a little silly,
But she is more precious than gold.

She went to summer camp one year
When she was the age of ten.
She made friends, who became dear
While she attended that camp then.

Colton was a boy that she liked.
He was so very kind and sweet.
Together they jogged and hiked
In the blazing summer heat.

Some months later came bad news
About an accident Colton had.
On an ATV, his life he would lose.
It was tragic and so sad.

Lillie wondered about her friend.
Did he go to Heaven that day?
Did he get saved before the end,
Before he tragically passed away?

Colton loved horses, Lillie knew,
So she began to secretly pray,
Asking God to give her a sign too
That Colton was in Heaven today.

"Dear God, if Colton's in Heaven there,
Tomorrow, after I leave school,
Help me see lots of horses somewhere.
Lord, that would really be cool."

Lillie went home on another road
When she left school the next day.
I thought that Lillie would explode
With joy as she passed that way.

"Oh Grandma! Hey, look over there!
There are many horses! I know it's so!
Then she told me about her prayer.
Colton is in Heaven now, I know!"

"Yes, God answers prayer," I said,
"For even a child of eleven.
This way today, God truly led
To assure you that Colton's in Heaven."
