Empty

by Catherine Deaton

Lost, empty eyes
Desolate stare
Vanishing vision
Hopeless despair

Where did vitality
Ambition retreat
How did this soul
Enter defeat?

No place to settle
No location for home
Wandering endless
Alone, left to roam

Needy and broken
Quickly glance past
No desire to ponder
Thought that may last.

There’s one who makes
A difference today
He graced this earth
What did He say?

Even “cup of cold water”
Given in My name
And “poor in spirit”
Will inherit the same

Fill empty souls
Hope bring to hearts
Life, emulate Christ’s
That’s where to start.
