Rules

by Ken Leath

Rules are put upon the backs,
Of people every day.
Jesus came to set us free
From the burdens along lifes way.

He said that if we loved Him,
We would obey all His commands.
Then called the Pharisees nasty names,
For requiring unbiblical demands.

Jesus set us free from sin,
He broke an awful yoke.
But laws made up by Pharisees,
He thought a terrible joke.

"Why require so much of men",
"On their shoulders a burden to bear"?
"You unjustly demand compliance",
"Of their journey, you do not care"!

You may be placed in authority,
We are required to do as you say.
But Jesus said "Don't be like them".
"They'll answer to God someday"!

The truth is in the bible.
It really says it all.
Adding anything to Gods own word,
Will be your big downfall.

God said He wanted all to know,
The glory of His Son.
The freedom that believers have,
Because of what Jesus has done.

We need not be like legalists,
Who make up so many rules.
Nor should we use our liberty,
As license to live like fools.

I think that what we really need,
Is to pray a sincere prayer.
So when we look into the mirror,
We might see Jesus there!
