Doing Something for Jesus

by Margaret Cagle

Emily Ann rose early that morn
And hopped right out of bed.
She had to do something for Jesus
Like her Sunday school teacher said.

What can I do, thought Emily Ann.
It must be something good,
Like help an old lady cross the road.
It would be nice if I could.

I could even help a crippled lady
To wash dishes and sweep the floor,
And I could give food to a hobo
If one should come to our door.

Something for Jesus, she must do,
So she started to plan her day.
Then Mom called, "Emily Ann,
Could you help with baby Kay?"

"Just get Susan to help you, Mom.
I do not have time, you know.
I must do something for Jesus soon,
So now I really have to go."

Then Emily Ann walked outside.
No crippled lady was in sight,
But her little neighbor pleaded,
"Please help me fix my kite!"

"Billy, I don't have time now.
There is something I must do.
I have to do something for Jesus.
You can go ask my sister Sue."

On the front porch Daddy sat,
Having Bible reading and prayer.
"Come here, Emily Ann, my dear.
I have a Bible verse to share."

"Helping others is serving Jesus.
Now Daddy, I think I have it right.
I'll go help Mom with baby Kay
And help Billy with his kite."
