Worldly perfection is like a child
Blowing soap bubbles in the breeze.
They glimmer with their many colors
To taunt, to temp and tease.
Shimmering in the bright sunlight
They promise prideful delight,
But one touch from a human hand
Poof! They vanish out of sight.
Excellence on the other hand
Is like a mountain of rock,
That may take a lifetime to climb
But will never lure or mock.
Perfection comes against our nature
And allows for no flaws at all.
Excellence offers encouragement
And says its okay if we fall.
Requiring we get up and repent
Asking forgiveness for our sin,
Excellence reaches out a firm hand
Saying let's start over again.
As humans we can never achieve
Perfection in its holy state,
Because it belongs to God alone
Leaving failure our destined fate.
So God made excellence to restore
Our confidence perfection stole,
To help us climb the mountain of life
And reach His attainable goal.
