Tis' Thy Signature

by Matthew Bokma

Send Thy Wind! Thy Storm! My course, do retrace;
Dash my vessel upon Thy Rock of Grace.
Set this sailor's wondering spirit free;
Rescue my soul from the drowning debris.

My body came to being from th'dust of ground;
Your breath's where eternal value is found.
Flesh is chained by the lengths of night and day,
While the soul resists the earth's decay.

Fools seek beauty, wealth, and worldly lust;
Th'wise see truth and possess a righteous trust.
Although all's in one and seem adjacent,
Some last for'er, others a mere moment.

Pluck mine eyes, better blind than sin I see;
Scathe my flesh, or such pleasures vain shall be.
Break my bones, force this haughty beast to kneel,
Lest I cuff myself to death's Iron Wheel.

Measure their worth, the scale is secure.
The soul to cherish, tis' Thy signature.
