Lost Innocence

by charmaine richards

There's a spirit moving on the land today that preys on the souls of the young.
It lurks in the schools, roams in the halls, and lashes at them with its tongue.

It has poisoned their minds by telling them lies like the Golden Rule isn't cool,
And keeping it real would mean a great deal if prayer stays out of schools.

The place for learning is now a place of fear, where the presence of a gun is not a shocker, Where settling a score is not done as before, but ends in bloody massacre.

Morality has become a thing of the past; the works of sin is now in.
More drugs, more skin, more dirty lyrics coupled with a dirty rhythm.

Yet, in spite of this move, there remain a few who'd never give this lifestyle a glance.
And amidst peer pressure and ridicule, they rise above its deadly trance.
