My God

by Rob Dilworth © 2016

My God is my comfort in sorrows and grief,
When losses are many and I need relief.
My God is my courage when fear sets up camp.
The path seems so dark with no light from His lamp.

My God is my faith when His silence prevails,
When doubts make me guess what my purpose entails.
My God is my hope when my future seems bleak,
Where trials and troubles devour the weak.

My God is my shepherd when I go astray;
When pride, so convincing, says, “go your own way.”
My God is my strength in the times of regress;
Enslaved by my weakness when faced with distress.

My God is my passion when reason is lost,
When forward momentum is slowed by the cost.
My God is my shield when the arrows are strung,
With armies opposing and battle cries sung.

My God is my power defending the cause,
To ward off attack and give enemies pause.
My God is my victory; Jesus has won,
Though fighting in battles, it’s not what I’ve done.

My God is my peace through the winds and the waves;
When I feel I’m sinking, my Jesus, he saves.
My God is the goodness that dwells within me;
He’s making me more than I ever could be.
