Torn

by Earl W Haskins © 2017

With the evil we spawn, can’t wait to move on
Though not in a hurry to die
So this life I’ll endure, my reasoning pure
I’ll share so you understand why

Although holding life dear, my death I don’t fear
I live as though heaven is real
With this world in a mess, I have to confess
A heaven sure has an appeal

Faithfulness pleases, eternity teases
Paradise our blessed reward
After hearing “well done,” I’ll know that I've won
Forever at peace with the Lord

We're taught to believe that no mind can conceive
What’s waiting beyond heaven’s gate
So despite what I know, and I'm ready to go
My child is the reason I’ll wait
