Daddy, Daddy

by Jaelyne Lamb

Daddy, daddy. Do you know the tears I cry?
Daddy, daddy. Did you know I hate to see you die?
I see the bottle that has taken control.
It causes a pain that none can console.
Father, Father. Bring my daddy back.
Father, Father. His soul's gone black.
You must understand that I had to leave.
But I love you more than you can perceive
Daddy, daddy. You're running out of time.
Daddy, daddy. This isn't just a rhyme.
Are you prepared to lose it all?
All but that picture on the wall.
Father, Father. Please wait longer.
Father, Father. I know you're stronger.
Are you capable of love anymore?
Or has alcohol rotted you to the core?
Daddy, daddy. The knocking won't end.
Daddy, daddy. Open up, and let Him rend.
Please just lay the bottle aside.
The handle is only on the inside.
Father, Father. I'm trusting you.
Father, Father. There's no more I can do.
