The New Kid on the Block

by Patricia Joan Polhans

There's a new kid on the block,
Not like any of the others.
They say he's not a black dude,
Must be a Jewish brother.

Don't know where he came from
Or where he has been
But people say he came
From the town, Jerusalem.

They say he's a Great King,
Man that seems a huge joke
Cause his family hangs out
With all of the poor folk.

The dude likes black brothers,
And chicks from the wrong side of tracks.
But the gangs here all love him
And like to listen to his facts.

They say he dresses in white linen
Shining like a bright light.
And he lives on the streets
Where he sleeps at night.

Today the new kid was found
Hanging out in the Holy Temple
Don't know what he does there,
Maybe somethin' simple.

They say he's not a politician
But he sure loves to speak
To all of the bad kids
Right out on the streets.

The little dude ain't like
Any of the others 'round here.
But a lotta people gather
Round him everywhere.

I've gotta check out
This new kid on the block.
Cause everyone says
This new kid really rocks!
