God Owns The Storm

by Billy Creighton © 2020

The day began with clouds thick and black
The storm gathering pace ready to attack
Distant rumbles turn to roars
The heavens open the deluge pours

The lightning forks across the sky
Downed the oak in a blink of an eye
The wind whistling its eerie sounds
Its strength and power gaining ground

The devil stands, he's filled with glee
Another storm, he's watching me!
Will it knock me off my course?
Or turn me from God because it hurts?

Will the pain harden my heart?
Will the storm tear me apart?
Or quench the Spirit in my fear?
Or make me wonder is God near?

O how Satan knows so little
Does he think I'll lose this battle?
Does he think this storm is his?
And he can tear me limb from limb?

O dear God of all creation
It is you who rebukes and chastens
It is you who sends the storm
It's your purpose to transform

O how I love to read of Jesus
Resting in the boat, amidst the breezes
Sleeping as the babe in the manager
The storm is His there is no danger

"Teacher, don't you care if we drown?"
They fear the storm will send them down
"Peace! Be still!" He said, and the winds did cease
With Jesus in the storm, there's perfect peace
