Bitter or better, now which will it be
Anger or wisdom emitting from me
Hasty or patient when I didn't choose
Placed in position to win or to lose
Tender or calloused resulting from pain
Softened or hardened when sun turns to rain
Obnoxious or grateful when things go my way
Proud as a peacock or humble to pray
Flesh and the Spirit, these always contend
Seeking the opposite one to upend
Grave is the battle that rages within
After the foray just one side can win
This is conclusive when going to war
The battle belongs to the one given more
If left in my hands the flesh overwhelms
But victory sure with God at the helm
Spirit is willing although flesh is weak
Spirit empowers the humble and meek
Surrendered to God, the flesh is subdued
Body is strengthened, resolve is renewed
Prostrate in battle we form the front line
Knowing in prayer we have power divine
When victory comes, who garners acclaim?
Our Captain of Faith, Jesus is His name!
Herein lies the truth for those who feel frail
Where Spirit is strong the flesh can't prevail
Where Christ enters in, unsheathing His sword
The battle belongs to the Lord.
“Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”
Romans 15:13 NKJV
