A Tale of the Great Flood

by O Inkpen © 2019

Way back in time just before the flood
Close to the Shield where Canada stood
Great sheets of ice had gripped the land
Stopped tons of water so I understand
But sun broke through and began to shine
One giant piece snapped; a crack so fine
The water broke free with a mighty roar
Rushed down to the sea for a distant shore

And a giant wave no one could alter
Crossed Atlantic, sunk a rock o’ Gibralter
And death rolled in, to the Aegean Sea
The valley yonder, its destiny
Wasn’t long after the Aegean was full
Water starting rising into Istanbul
Rising unabated, what a fuss!
Imagine! It created the Bosporus!

God’s fierce anger was close at hand
Wrath would come through a neck of land
Water roared in to that valley below
Flooding the plains neither fast nor slow
People had to flee the land it carved
Living hand to mouth; probably starved
Mega-tons of water floated much debris
Then washed away; left the Black Sea

This old story is a myth to many
Not worth telling, common as a penny
Known North ’n South, East ‘n West
Must have occurred! It’s my best guess.
Told in China; spoken in Japan
Written in the Bible, and in the Koran
Everywhere you hear its elocution
Moral decay meets retribution

And this one here is backed by science
Not fool proof; just extra reliance
Thank all the seekers who examine bones
Who study the earth and look under stones
We’d never know this without their toil
Curiously digging throughout the soil
And thanks to this scientific dispersion
The old flood story has another version

Ephesians 2:4-5
But because of his great love for us,
God, who is rich in mercy, made us
alive with Christ even when we were
dead in transgressions; it is by grace
you have been saved.

...If I may touch but his clothes, I shall be whole. Mark 5:28
