Demented Days

by Carol Connell
https://writeathome.wordpress.com/

t's the start of another day.
His condition is still the same.
She wonders if the time is coming soon
that he won't remember her name.

Will he lose his temper again,
have another outburst of rage?
It's during those times of frustration
she longs to turn back the page

to moments of tenderness
when sensible words were spoken.
He could think and reason and live
with mental faculties unbroken.

She loved him then,
and she loves him still.
She chooses to
by her own will.
Through the hurt
and through the pain
the commitment she made,
whether sunshine or rain.
Though sadness does linger
and things will get tough
she's holding to the God
who will be enough.

Not knowing why God would allow him
to be mentally unwell,
sometimes it feels like she's been robbed
and left with only a shell.
Yet she knows somehow,
all things work together for our good,
though there are the moments she wonders
just how they possibly could.

She loved him then,
and she loves him still.
She chooses to
by her own will.
Through the hurt
and through the pain
the commitment she made,
whether sunshine or rain.
Though sadness does linger
and things will get tough
she's holding to the God
who will be enough.
