Armed Angels Watching At the Cross

by Raydene Nash

Surrounded by the Lord’s hosts heavenly
Who fight for us with splendid weaponry,
There is no need to withdraw sullenly.
Angels welcomed Jesus the boy baby
Singing, “Glory to God in the highest,
And on earth, peace and goodwill toward men.”
They waited, armed, prepared to fight their best
At Jesus’ arrest in the garden when
More than twelve legions heaven could afford
Him to protect from death upon the cross.
Angelic hosts will ever serve the Lord,
They never over His command would gloss.
At the cross they watched with weapons lowered,
Awed when He arose, and Satan glowered.
