The Traffic Light

by Colan Hiatt © 2017

It hangs from a cable above the street
One purpose does it serve
To permit an orderly flow of traffic
As it's three colors we observe

There is a time we must use caution
As we navigate the street
A transition between the other two
In harmony they make the cycle complete

I find a metaphor to compare
To this simple item we all know
God’s Word can be so easily related
Right from wrong, it will always show

Many "do not's" He has mandated
It demands we stop when the light is red
Failing to heed will sever fellowship
Chastisement surely lies ahead

Many green lights He has given
That will bring His children joy
Not only to this earthly life
But forever in eternity, we can enjoy

I suppose the greatest green light He gave
Was on the day He ascended
"Go ye" into all the world
Proclaim my Word, He commanded
