Remember Jesus Christ

by Billy Creighton © 2021

The service over, guests started to arrive
at the home, like the buzz of the bees at the hive
All excited, and with hearts full of joy
At the christening in the life of the baby boy

Faces aglow with cocktails a flow
Old friends chat of the long ago
A cold buffet sprayed to all's delight
Creamy tarts, salmon and savoury bites

With music adding to the party atmosphere
The time passed so quickly that day, that year
Amidst the noise in the crowded room
A question replaced the joy with doom

"Where's the baby? he isn't here"
The question was urgent, a sense of fear
She ran to her bedroom to find her son,
smothered from their coats one by one.

Do we smother daily God's dear Son?
Amidst the trappings for success and wealth and fun
In church are our minds focused
On everything else but Jesus and worship

Paul reminds Timothy "remember Jesus Christ"
A timely reminder for me, He still shines bright
He's alive, the only one risen from the dead
The only way, the only truth, the only life, my only bread.

Oh, why must it take a tragedy
To awaken my senses towards worshiping thee
