Do You Hear Me?

by Susan Mouw
http://roadtothecross.org/

Oh Lord, do You love me?
Do You accept my flaws and my sin?
Do You laugh at my foolishness?
Do You cry when I fall over and over again?

Do You hear me, Lord, when I plead
for Your mercy and Your Grace?
Do You feel my pain, Lord,
each time I lose my place?

Are You tolerant of my weakness
when, once again, I fail
to keep the promises I made to You
when other miseries befell?

How can I live up to Your expectations
when I can't even live up to my own?
The standards You set are too high, Lord,
I can't do this all alone.

The standards I set are high, child,
and impossible for you to keep on your own.
You must keep your eyes on Me, child.
It is my strength that brings you along.

You're trying too hard by acts, child,
to earn your place in my heart.
But your place is secure, and has been,
from the very start.

Don't try to work your way into heaven,
it can't be done that way.
It's your heart I treasure above all things,
and your willingness to obey.

Stop thinking about tomorrow.
Take each day as it comes.
You don't know what the future holds,
or when I'll come to take you home.

Keep your eyes on me, child.
Let the things of this world fade away.
You are not of this world, now.
Your rewards are saved for another day.

Lord, I see Your hand all around me.
I see miracles taking place
in the lives of those I love, Lord
and I know it's only through Your Grace.

But still sometimes I wonder
Where are You… and are You listening to me?
Even when I know You're there…
My heart is blinded and I cannot see.

I long to feel Your presence.
I want only to see Your face.
Lord, can't You make it easier?
Can't You take my will and put Your Love in its place?

Even sheep can follow a shepherd
When there's nothing else they know.
I want you to want to follow Me
and count the costs as you go.

And, you want to see My face, child?
Look around you, at all that has endured.
I am present even in the air you breath
and, in the wind, my voice can be heard.

Of all things I have created
I gave My life for you
I ask only for your love, child
And for your heart to be true.

You can't earn enough points, child
To get into Heaven one day.
It's only by faith you can make this trip.
Not by sight will you find your way.

Look to Me, my child
And of this world, let go.
My love will carry you on, child
My Grace is all you need to know.
