This Jesus

by Raydene Nash

God's finger wrote in stone on Sinai's mount,
So distant when the crowd said they'd obey.
Revealing sin, the Ten Commandments count,
But in his grace, the Lord with us would stay.

Caught in adultery, before Him brought,
Her the woman heard the priests condemning.
To stone her for her sin the priests there sought,
Christ bent to the dust, His finger writing.

Those teaching law and Pharisees were bent
On somehow catching Jesus Christ off guard.
"He without sin, cast the first stone," was meant
To show that all had sinned, and they were jarred.

Beginning with the eldest, one by one,
Those priests who would condemn her disappeared.
When Christ asked where they were, she answered stunned,
"They that would condemn are no longer here."

"I don't condemn you either," Jesus spoke.
"Go and sin no more," He said, words of life.
Bare Jesus hung upon the cross, so broke,
Becoming sin for our atonement, strife.

In doing so, the Lord repaired the breach,
Restoring to us paths wherein to dwell.
Our lives away from us the devil seeks to leach,
He knows where he is going is to hell.

With every breath, His Spirit breathes in me,
Each motion that I make in Him concise.
The cattle on a thousand hills His be,
Each blessing from my Father is like spice.

Though I don't appear to have abundance,
My tongue speaks into being death and life.
When I speak His word without redundance,
It cuts through evil thick just like a knife.

With my eyes fixed on Jesus Christ my Lord,
Temptations wily do not have a chance.
With prayers of faith His Spirit in accord,
The devil hesitates at me to glance.

I bless the Lord, His praise is in my mouth,
While not forgetting all His benefits.
His Spirit moves me North, East, West, and South,
The frenzied devil runs in angry fits.

When I am stuck, the Holy Spirit speaks
A word of wisdom to me fittingly.
An answer sought in my own strength for weeks
The Spirit of the Lord gives instantly.

I speak without remorse though I'm no whiz,
Within His word His goodness can be found.
I hold my head up knowing that I'm His,
For Him I walk with purpose, claiming ground.
