THE WAY TO WALK

by Peter the Poet © 1997
www.youtube.com/channel/UC_GtbBeRm8ctYlmNqax4afA

To walk in the flesh is to be a man,
Day after miserable day.
To fulfil every want you possibly can,
The games of the body blindly to play.

If adultery, temper and greed are your way,
Jealousy and hatred your friends.
If robbery, murder and envy pays,
Lewdness and filth your morality bends.

I'm here to tell you there is a way out,
Be led by the spirit inside.
And avoid all the sin that has come about,
By your worldliness, ignorance and pride.

Our spirit it wars against the flesh,
It's fruit is love and peace.
Kindness, long-suffering, these are best,
Gentleness, faith and hope never cease.

So think upon urges before you act,
And decide on where it came from.
If the flesh it is bad and that's a fact,
If the spirit, be glad and go on.

So live in the spirit and walk in it too,
Do not become provoking or vain.
As Christ Jesus did, we also must do,
Live in the light of the Son, bind the rain.

AUTHORS NOTE:
Walking in the spirit is not some New Age psychic experience, but a way for us to test our actions, and control our more fleshy desires that will inhibit our Christian life. Before we get angry, tell a lie, steal etc, we should stop and determine the origin of the impulse. Is it from God or the Enemy? It is absolutely imperative that we not only talk of spiritual things, but walk in them too. This can be achieved by doing what we, as Christians, are so good at talking about.
