One day young David was tending his sheep,
In the warm afternoon, slowly drifting to sleep,
But he bound to his feet and his heart gave a leap
When a bear sprang out to attack.
The bear gave a roar, giving David a hunch
That this beast was looking for something to munch.
And it had on its menu his sheep for its lunch
Throwing David in for a snack.
Saying David was scared, is putting it mild,
To face such monster so savage and wild.
And he not really much more than a child,
With his weapons a staff and a sling.
David took a moment to say a quick prayer,
"Oh Lord God in heaven I know you are there,
I'm needing Your help with this nasty, old bear."
And in faith he charged after the thing.
David let fly a stone praying, "God, here goes."
And God guided the stone to the bear's tender nose
A howl of pain from that beast then arose.
Fleeing as it whimpered and roared.
David learned from that day a lesion quite clear,
No matter the danger, no matter the fear,
We have a God who is always quite near
And we're safe in the strength of the Lord.
