Bless Me

by Mark Spencer © 2012

Bless me Lord, for I have sinned,
I gave my eyes control again.
Everything I thought of Thee,
Was based upon the things I see.

I saw Thee in a flower,
Thinking I would know Thy power.
I could see Thee in a brook,
Believing I knew where to look.

When I gazed upon the sea,
I thought I saw Thy majesty.
And when I looked at the sky,
I thought I saw Thy face, on high.

More than once I thought I heard,
Thy beauty in the songs of birds.
In the fragrance of a rose
I even sensed Thee with my nose.

I could feel Thee with a touch,
Dear Lord, I thought I knew so much.
Every sense was pleasure based,
From sight to touch, and even taste.

Thou art so much more than this,
Beyond the realm of earthly bliss.
More than human eyes can see,
Transcending my reality.

Forgive me Lord, for my sin,
And let me not forget again.
Give me strength to know the lies,
When told to me by my own eyes.

And let me recognize my gifts.
Give me wisdom to mend my rifts.
I'm thankful for all you've done,
And for the gift of thine own Son.

Lead me home, one day, to Thee,
When I complete my destiny.
Give me guidance until then.
In Jesus name, I pray. Amen.
