The constant Gardener

by Bettina Van Vaerenbergh

Christians are noble trees, we are the planting of God.
In good ground He planted us, with an approving nod.
He waters us with grace, we're fertilized with love -
Carefully He prunes us, not too much, but just enough.
God monitors our growth, we're never out of His sight;
He quickly intervenes, when something isn't right.
While some trees grow slowly, and others grow fast;
What God is most concerned about, is fruit that will last.
Oh so patient He is with those trees that are fruitless;
They receive special care, and He loves them no less.
God is long-suffering, He waits many, many years…
Over a tree that's dead and barren, He cries bitter tears.
Other trees make God smile, when tender buds appear.
The Father knows: A harvest of Christ-like virtues is near.
Love, joy, peace, kindness, gentleness and generosity -
These are all among the good fruits God loves to see.
By stormy weather now and then, He is not alarmed;
From all evil Jesus shields us, so we won't be harmed.
Our leaves will not wither, no matter what we might face;
We'll survive any drought, if we remain in God's grace.
Christians will never be uprooted, if in Jesus we abide -
We are the planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified!
