Lessons from the Valley

by Gwen Stoilov

Lessons from the Valley (July 2021)

I ran
as fast and hard
as I could
away from it

Away from the thought-
the truth
that I wasn't enough
that I couldn't do it all

I ran
as fast and hard
as I could
until my body told me
no more
I will not do this anymore
I cannot do this anymore

In case you didn't realize
you're only human

In case you didn't realize
you can't work hard enough
to earn worth and approval

In case you didn't realize
you have very real limits

And in case you didn't realize
You're loved despite

The Maker of Heaven and Earth
made you
knowing those limits
knowing those flaws
yet loving you all the same
and calling you Beloved

So I embrace my humanity
It reminds me that
His perfect love
Outweighs my imperfections

I walk
With deep full breath
Surrendering to my lack
Embracing His abundance

Toward the thought-
the truth
that He is enough
that He holds all I need

I walk
In this newness
Yielding to the reality
That only He is God
