RAGS TO RICHES

by Peter the Poet
www.youtube.com/channel/UC_GtbBeRm8ctYlmNqax4afA

A man called to serve as footman to his Lord,
Is outcast amongst his Brothers.
An unbelieving world provides the hangman's cord,
Under scorn and contempt his heart smothers.

Though blessed by God he is cursed by men,
His good nature is often betrayed.
He is slandered by mouth and debased by the pen,
His body is beaten and flayed.

Sold into slavery in fetters and chains,
With fear and trembling he obeys and submits.
He is offered concern and compassion that's feigned,
But with forgiveness all trespass he remits.

Cast into prison for a fault not his own,
He is leader amongst the lowly.
And those that accuse shall reap what they sow,
Their poverty will creep up on them slowly.

When released to be keeper of all he surveys,
The Lord's strength and power he presents.
He guides lost sheep to God's pasture to graze,
The wolf packs get a just recompense.

Though a servant for life, his trials are complete,
On the bones of the unjust he strides.
Though the world can imprison it cannot defeat,
The slave in which God's Spirit abides.

AUTHORS NOTE:
I wrote this for a friend going through a trial. A man who in the face of the enemy, lifted his head, pulled his shoulders back and continued with the Lords work regardless of the consequences. In order to be inhabited by the Holy Spirit, we who are of sinful nature, must be made holy. This means that areas of our lives that need to be changed, will be tested and burnt out by fire if we cannot change them ourselves, (which we can't). We should remember to praise the Lord in all circumstances, even the bad ones.
