Into the Breach

by Bob Johnson © 2023

Into the breach,
wade the men of this age,
No end in sight,
to the wars we still wage.
We've advanced through the centuries,
from club, spear and long bow,
to missiles and gasses,
that peel flesh from our foes.
We've fought for real estate, ambition,
ideology and lust,
for God and country,
and kingdoms we trust.
Twice World Wars,
to end all wars,
we have fought with great pride,
only to end up,
with no safe places to hide.
Man's endgame only violence,
Armageddon, and grief,
the only Savior with answers,
was crucified like a thief.
Jesus did warn us,
of these wars without end,
But He promised great peace,
to those he called friend.
And deliver us to be sure,
The foundations been laid,
for all who cry Savior,
The price has been paid.

"He will judge between the nations and will settle disputes for many peoples.
They will beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks.
Nation will not take up sword against nation, nor will they train for war anymore.
Come, descendants of Jacob, let us walk in the light of the Lord." Isaiah 2:4-5
