When in doubt…

by Bettina Van Vaerenbergh

John Baptist was in prison
Plagued by doubts, and fear.
What about all the stories -
That had reached his ear?

Was his cousin Jesus really
Who John thought Him to be;
Or had the people of Israel
To wait for another than He?

If Jesus was the Messiah;
Why not come to his aid?
Why didn't He save John?
How long would Jesus wait?

Over and over all kinds of
Questions played in his mind,
Until John firmly decided:
The answers he would find.

The Baptist called to himself
His two most faithful disciples.
Unto Jesus he sent them;
And it wasn't for some trifles!

John entrusted to those two
A most weighty task;
To go and find Jesus for him,
And this question to ask:

"Tell us now, Master, art Thou"
"He that should come?"
"Or do we look for another";
"Tell us, have we been wrong?"

"Are You the Messiah?" -
"John Baptist wants to know."
"He's locked up in prison";
"Discouraged, in spirits low."

"Go tell John", said Jesus,
"The things you hear and see";
"How the lame do walk again",
"After being touched by Me."

"Go tell him", He said further,
"The Kingdom of God is here!"
"Tell him how the blind do see",
"And the deaf do hear."

"The dead, they are raised",
"And the lepers are cleansed";
"And blessed, blessed is he" -
"Who in Me takes no offense."

When we're faced with trials
And we see no way out,
It's so easy to question God;
It's so, so human to doubt.

It's in moments like these
That childlike faith is a must.
God's character is holy;
In Him we can always trust.

God has good plans for us;
So why wear a frown?
Jesus Christ is faithful, He'll -
Never ever let us down.

God is Love, and trustworthy;
All His promises are true.
He WILL come to our rescue;
He WILL see us through!

So if doubts come to haunt you,
In church, or on your bed;
Just take the Word of God -
Knock 'em on their ugly head!
