The full extent of His love.

by Royston

The last and gruesome journey had begun
for Almighty Gods' One and Only Son.
Angels looked down in awe with bated breath
as He walked the road that led on to death.

The day loomed closer as the cross drew near
and in the garden He was filled with fear.
But it was the only way He could save,
humankind from the clutches of the grave.

Ten thousand angels stood there at their posts
waiting for one word from their Lords of Hosts.
But He kept silent and went on alone
climbing Golgotha's Hill all on His own.

Flogged and beaten, whipped and scourged,
there on the cross sins iniquities He purged,
as our transgressions on Jesus were laid,
and lash by lash the awful price was paid.

With nail pieced body and a spear pierced side
"Father forgive them" aloud He cried,
as the blood flowed from His noble veins
washing away all of our guilty stains.

Then the Lord our God yielded to death
crying "It is finished," with His last breath.
The Immortal One bowed His head and died
and at Calvary's Hill was crucified.
