What is Grace?

by Joanne McQuitty

I asked, 'What is grace?' I saw a woman, bereaved
Praising the Saviour in whom she believed
And the pain in her heart didn't show on her face
For the Lord had given his beautiful grace
She gave thanks for her husband, the love of her life
And for all of the years she had lived as his wife
She stood straight and tall, spoke the words from her soul
Though she felt she was half the Lord made her whole.
Now living each day with the strength God has given
She walks hand in hand with The High King of Heaven
His love moves her forward when times are so tough
His grace is sufficient, His grace is enough.

Again I asked, 'What is grace?'. He showed me more
In the life of a mother who trusted the Lord
Though her son had been trapped in a life of addiction
Broke her heart many times with lies and with fiction
She held on to God day and night, never ceasing
Pleading for mercy, her faith not decreasing
Grace for each day and hope that tomorrow
Would bring deliverance instead of sorrow.
Trusting her Father that one happy day
He will fall to his knees and surrender his way
And the tears that she's sown for her precious boy
Will be replaced with abundance of Joy

In all of our lives the world sees Gods grace
We all have our troubles, our problems to face
It's how we react that sets us apart
It's the way that we trust God with all of our heart
Looking to Jesus, sure he won't let us down
Holding on to promises, trying hard to smile not frown
Setting our faces to the goal that's ahead
Even when it's hard to get out of bed
He knows, he cares, he loves, he hears
Through pain, through loss, through hurt, through tears
His loving arms reaching, always on the case
Oh wonderful, immeasurable, amazing grace.
