On sowing and reaping…

by Bettina Van Vaerenbergh

A Christian is God's planting,
A good and noble tree;
Meant to bear good fruit -
For all the world to see.

By walking in the Holy Spirit
This fruit will start to grow;
But we will reap corruption
If to the flesh we sow…

The flesh and God's Spirit
Are each other's enemies,
And that's why we cannot do
The things that we please.

We have been called to liberty,
By love to serve each other;
Willingly to bear the burdens
Of neighbor, Sister or Brother.

If we thus live by the Spirit
We will fulfill the law of Christ.
By yielding to His every desire
We live a God-pleasing life.

Meekness, temperance, joy
And goodness will be our fruit;
Love, patience and peace too -
If we keep on doing good.

Let's be zealous in well-doing;
To this end we were set apart.
In due season we will harvest,
If we do not lose heart.

Let us crucify the flesh then
And the Word of Jesus keep…
If we let God's Spirit guide us -
Life everlasting we will reap!
