I Must

by Kathleen Higham

Oh, I miss him!
The love of my life
But even more I long
For that peace of knowing
Freedom throttles strife.

Grieving is part of living
But to grieve the Holy One
Lord, I feared it most!
In human selfishness, could I?
Could I fail Him when life is done?

Oh, I miss him!
Simplistic man of God
Who kept me anchored, no matter
He worried not nor grieved
On the painful path he trod.

So with him I walked
Protected by his godly love
Now I'm naked for all to see
It was more he than me
Who trusted, looked to Him above.

I look now to my Savior
Abide says He, and believe
Grieve the Spirit for a moment, I might
And frightening as it may be
Peace For He will never leave.

Oh, I miss him!
My wonderful, precious man
These hands tremble as I write
Jim was never shaken by life
For he trusted in God's plan.

This has been the morning, worst
My spirit though it be crushed
Still I thank my Father for abiding
In a broken heart so bruised
Lord, I thank you, yes, I must.

Ephesians 4:30-32
“And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking be put away with you, with all malice. And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you.”
