Only One Reason

by Kathy Kimbrough © 2000

Jesus I want to say thank you
For hanging on the cross that day
And as they hammered the nails into your hands
Not once did you attempt to walk away.

As they placed your feet one on top of the other
And started hammering the third nail in
You humbly hung there because of your love
For you wanted to save me from sin.

I'm so very sorry for the pain you bore
But I'm thankful that you didn't come down.
If it had not been the way that it was,
No hope for my soul could be found.

A crown of thorns they made for you to wear
And so brutally pressed it down on your head.
It pierced the tenderest skin of your brow
As you silently hung there and bled.

The agony you suffered and the blood you shed
Was a high price that you chose to pay.
But I know that you did it for Only One Reason,
It was for me that you died that day.

Matthew chapter 1 verse 21 says: ...And she will have a son, and you are to name him Jesus, for HE WILL SAVE HIS PEOPLE
FROM THEIR SINS.

Taken from Matthew 1:21 in the New Living Life Application Study Bible.
