A Strong Spirit

by T Rock © 2020

As the story goes; he had a strong spirit and could do it all
Dauntless rarely failed at anything great or small
Vitality, tall, good-looking, talented, and smart
Was rich and successful, lacking nothing, to most a world apart

But over time and trial by trial, it was all taken away
Position, fame, money, health, and even his place to stay
He lost faith in everything and even the will to live
Nowhere to turn and forsaken by friends no longer willing to give

Homeless, wandering without purpose, in pain and anguish
Reaching the proverbial bottom and wondering is this how I'll languish
Until one day, in an alley, he stumbled onto one, not unlike himself
Long hair, a beard, an odd and modest robe, and without wealth

The man talked of the gospel, absolution, and how it's never too late
He spoke of the Father, repentance, and how love rules over hate
Crying and falling to his knees, he promised he would always believe
He prayed for help and forgiveness, and a new faith he did receive

It helped him to begin anew, giving comfort and strength and guiding his way
Finding his special gift, sharing the word, and helping others to pray
Living out his life blessed, reborn, and serving the Lord
At peace, happy and fulfilled receiving his just accord

Dauntless, yes, and failed at many things great and small
But it is said he has a strong Spirit and now, by the Grace of God, can do it all
