The Hand of God

by Kristine Stanton © 2021

One day I met a man
who cried out in distress.
He said he was ashamed
and wanted to confess.

He got down on his knees
and prayed to God above,
"Lord, I want forgiveness,
but don't deserve Your love."

He looked back on his past
and all the evil things
that led him where he'd been -
away from God, our King.

He'd faced some troubled times,
alone, not trusting God,
and traveled to a place
where sinful folks had trod.

He'd walked there on his own,
away from Yahweh's Light,
as darkness captured him
and held him day and night.

The place unleashed its sin
and caused his heart to fear.
This site was dark and grim,
which made his view unclear.

He shouted out to God
as tears flowed from his eyes.
He asked for clemency -
in anguish did he cry.

The Lord had heard his plea
and to his side He came.
The man confessed each sin
and had no one to blame.

'Twas then the good Lord reached
with His extended arms
and drew this man to Him
to save his soul from harm.
