Even When

by Deb Smithgall

Even when my eyes are open
Even when my head's not bowed
Even when my hands aren't folded
Even when I can't kneel down
Even when I speak in whispers
Even when I cry out loud
Even when the words escape me
Lord - can You hear me now?

Even when the sun is shining
Even when it feels like rain
Even when life seems perfect
Even when I hide the pain
Even when I try to be humble
Even when I'm much too proud
Even when I hope You're not listening
Lord - can You hear me now?

Even when I chase the darkness
Even when I lose my way
Even when I embrace distraction
Even when I'm scared to pray
Even when there's peace and quiet
Even when I'm with a crowd
Even when I seek forgiveness
Lord - can You hear me now?
Lord, God - I know You hear me now!

Isaiah 53:6
King James Version

"All we like sheep have gone astray;
we have turned every one to his own
way; and the Lord hath laid on him the
iniquity of us all."
