Third Man on a Cross

by Dennis Calhoun

Third man on a cross I hang.
For my crimes I suffer here.
My agony seems endless now.
A worse fate still I have to fear.
Yet with the first, I mock the One,
Who hangs here in between.
Until by faith I call on Him,
Who alone can intervene.
Here I pray unto the Man,
With eyes of faith I see.
When You come in your Kingdom, Lord
Lord, remember me.
Vile am I as the first,
But from my pride I flee.
When You come in Your Kingdom, Lord
Lord, remember me.

Third man a cross I hang.
I cannot recite a creed.
But there's assurance in His Words,
His Words are all I need.
Could He be the Lamb of God?
For blemish He has none.
Could He be the future King?
And could this be God's Son?
Here I pray unto the Man,
With eyes of faith I see.
When You come in Your Kingdom, Lord
Lord remember me.
There's no merit I can bring.
Great sinner I may be.
When You come in Your Kingdom, Lord
Lord, remember me.

Third man on a cross I hang.
I now have cause for praise.
Somehow this is not the end.
My spirit God will raise.
Then His eyes, fixed on mine,
His Words I longed to hear.
He said in Paradise we'll be,
And He vanquished there my fear.
Here I pray unto the Man, with eyes of faith I see,
When You come in Your Kingdom Lord,
Lord remember me.
And though the pain of death is real,
From its sting I am now free.
You brought me into Your Kingdom Lord,
Indeed, You remembered me.
